Studying and Staying in Port Douglas

Port Douglas is a small and vibrant town an hour’s drive north of Cairns.  There are approximately 5,000 residents and 15,000 tourist accommodations in town.  So, this area has all the services that travellers might need; grocery stores, chemists, medical clinics, restaurants, shops and internet cafés are plentiful.  Located at the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, and minutes to the Daintree National Park, Port Douglas offers a beautiful natural environment in which to explore your Yoga practice.

Getting Around Port Douglas

Shuttle buses run regularly from the Cairns City and the airport to Port Douglas.  As well, local shuttles can transport you to outer reaches of town, and neighboring towns and tourist destinations.  

Attractions

There is a lot to do in and around Port Douglas on your weekends.  The beach, the pool, the rainforest and the reef are all at your back door.  Day trips to the rainforest and the reef are plentiful, as well you may like to visit the Mossman Gorge, Daintree Village, Kuranda, and other villages and parks in the area.  On Sundays there is a great market in town selling fresh local fruit and veg, as well as local crafts and gifts.  It’s a great way to spend a Sunday morning.  To learn more about Port Douglas visit www.tourismportdouglas.com

Weather
 

Port Douglas is a world-renowned getaway for a reason; the beautiful tropical climate.   The tropics has two seasons, wet and dry.  Dry season sees lovely temperatures from 15-25 degrees and lovely blue skies.  During the wet season, the Australian summer, temperatures and humidity rise, and most afternoons and evenings see some rain.  Check the internet for the expected weather during your visit so that you can pack accordingly.
