Keeping up with Heather
Hello Friends,
August already? Where does the time go?
Well, that is a good question isn't it; where does the time
go?
Time flies when you're having fun they say...but more
likely time is flying while we are multi-tasking, multi-managing,
and splitting our attention between all the duties, tasks, worries,
ideas and expectations that continuing circle our minds like planes
waiting for landing. It is an interesting phenomenon that
in the age of "information", it is the overload of information that
is causing us to exist in a state of chronic physical and mental
tension.
In Canada, the summer has such a different rhythm from
the rest of the year. It seems that during the summer time
does slow down and we all get a chance to enjoy the magic that is
available in the present moment. Puttering in the garden,
lying on the beach with a good book, splashing around the pool with
the kids, all of these activities give us a chance to move away
from the restlessness and tension of our everyday lives, and be
really present and fully alive. Summer barbecues are
so different from our structured and orderly lunch dates and dinner
engagements as our long Canadian afternoons just go on forever,
and time seems to stretch and become more supple in order to fulfil
our whims and fancies.
To me this time that we Canadians have in the summer
is precious for so many reasons, but chiefly because it is the time
when we give ourselves permission to give up stress, tension, timetables
and agendas and let the day lead us into experiences...finding the
difference between chronos - the "length" of time, and kairos -
the "depth" of time.
Wherever you are in the world this month, whether out
in the backyard on a lounge chair, or curled up by a fire in the
snowfields, I do wish you a chance to remember what peace and fulfilment
comes out of Kairos
Namaste,
Heather.
Thoughts On...Time
Chronos is clocks, deadlines,
watches, calendars, agendas, planners, schedules, beepers. Chronos
is time at her worst. Chronos keeps track. ...Chronos is the world's
time. Kairos is transcendence, infinity, reverence, joy, passion,
love, the Sacred. Kairos is intimacy with the Real. Kairos is time
at her best. ...Kairos is Spirit's time. We exist in chronos. We
long for kairos. That's our duality. Chronos requires speed so that
it won't be wasted. Kairos requires space so that it might be savored.
We do in chronos. In kairos we're allowed to be ... It takes only
a moment to cross over from chronos into kairos, but it does take
a moment. All that kairos asks is our willingness to stop running
long enough to hear the music of the spheres.

Personal Growth in Canberra:
Chris will be offering a few workshops and private consultations
in Canberra in the next few months. His first program offering
is "The Journey - Self Mastery I" and I can't recommend this program
highly enough, it formed the foundation of my own journey into metaphysics,
and has helped thousands of people around the world learn to relax
more deeply, enhance relationships with self and others, identify
destructive beliefs and begin the process of "weeding" them out
of your life, and most importantly this course will teach you how
to become a more conscious director of your own experience in life.
If you would like to know more about the program, see the description
to the left, or contact Chris at 0437 710 582 or write to chris@yogatrinity.com

Bits and Bites:
Consciousness In Action
August 9-12 the Institute of Noetic Sciences and Yoga
industry leaders like Robert Thurman, Shiva Rea, Swami Chidanand
Saraswati, James Twyman and even Swami Beyondananda are coming together
for "Consciousness in Action" a conference that is sure to enhance
the unity of the esoteric and the scientific in an effort to raise
consciousness around the world. To take part, or for more

Films & Books:
Great for adults and kids alike, the film The Last
Mimzy, new to DVD in Canada, takes a magical journey
with a very timely message about the essence of humanity.
Stephen Cope, author of the fantastic book "Yoga and
the Quest for the True Self" has recently released a new book.
"The Wisdom of Yoga - A Seeker's Guide to Extraordinary Living".
Both are available on Amazon.
Ashtanga Yoga: Practice and Philosophy by Australian
Yogi Gregor Maehle is one of the best books I've seen on the subject
of Ashtanga Yoga, and for once it is a book that is cheaper in Australia
then Canada! For the intermediate practitioner, this book
is full of information on the foundations of Ashtanga Yoga, the
practice, functional anatomy as it relates to the postures, breathwork,
bandhas and more. Ideal for those of you wanting to deepen
your Ashtanga practice.
Clean Green
Looking for a cheaper and more environmentally friendly
cleaning solution? Advice from my Mom is to get rid of all
of your expensive, chemical-laden and over-packaged cleaning products
and replace them all with just two products; white vinegar and baking
soda. She cleans almost exclusively with these now, and finds
the house is cleaner for longer and with less effort, and it's definitely
kinder on her skin. Sinks, bathtubs and toilets shine with
a bit of baking soda and water scrubbed over the surface.
Do the same in the toilet, then add a touch of vinegar, it will
bubble up a bit so just leave it for a while to do it's magic.
Most surfaces like counters, floors and windows can be cleaned with
a mixture of vinegar and water. Vinegar also makes a great
fabric softener. Old towels or "magic cloths" can be washed
and reused instead of paper-towels or disposable cloths. The
book she recommends, "188 Ingenious Uses for Vinegar" is one of
her favourites, look for it at the grocery store. And, while
you are there remember to stock up on the essentials, vinegar and
baking soda.
Fitness Trends for the Future
New information from the International Association of
Fitness Professionals indicates that the "wellness revolution" shows
no signs of slowing down. The growth of mind/body programs
like Yoga, Pilates, Thai Chi and Qigong is still through the
roof, and fitness facilities are struggling to keep up with demand
as participants call for more and more programs geared towards wellness
and mind/body awareness. Pod-casting, web-based programming
and newly developed interactivity between your phone/planner, your
ipod and your treadmill are all newly emerging technologies meant
to help fitness users stay motivated. Other trends that we are seeing
include more personalized service, lifestyle coaching, outdoor programs,
and dance-based programs. After the mega-hit TV programs "Dancing
with the Stars" and "So You Think You Can Dance" it seems that many
people are turning to dance to get a great workout, have fun, and
enhance their lifestyles. The great thing about dance-based
programs are that they offer a wide range of movements that is so
healthy for our posture, offers cardiovascular benefits, and gives
us a chance to break out of our biomechanical routines and have
some fun. Are you finding a new and innovative way to keep
fit and healthy? Write to us at heather@yogatrinity.com and share
your success!
Recipes - Quinoa
In an era where the bodies need for grains are often
in conflict with the current trend away from "simple carbs", quinoa
is a grain that stands alone as an incredible source of nutrients,
vitamins and minerals. Quinoa (keen-wa) is a grain that is
very high in protein, calcium, iron, potassium and lysine, which
makes it a great staple of the vegetarian diet. Great news
for those who are gluten-free, as unlike wheat, spelt and kamut,
quinoa naturally has no gluten. This grain is so easy to prepare,
has a slightly crunchy texture, and most interestingly when it is
cooked a tiny spiral appears from inside the grain. You can
find quinoa in both grain and flour form at any health food store
and most grocery stores. Be sure to rinse your quinoa a few
times before using to remove it's naturally occurring coating that
can cause a "soapy" or bitter taste. Store dry quinoa in the
fridge for freshness.
Basic Quinoa Recipe
1 cup Quinoa grain
2 cups water or vegetable broth
Rinse the quinoa a few times under cold water and drain.
Bring water or broth to boil, add quinoa, and reduce the heat.
Simmer covered for 12-15 minutes or until liquid is absorbed and
grain looks transparent. Toss with butter or ghee, season
with salt and freshly ground pepper, or a seasoning like Mrs. Dash
for flavour. Serves great as a side-dish, just like rice.

this "superfood". For more information on Quinoa:
