Mind Body Messenger
issue#2 June 2003

Keeping Up with Heather

Thanks for the great response from our first issue of the Mind Body Messenger. It was great to hear from students, clients and friends both past and present. For this month's column, I have a few announcements, and some great resources:

Our web site is now being managed by Peter Karstenskov of Kars10co Digital Solutions. The site has undergone some cosmetic changes, and now features a series of articles and meditations, and will soon include an interactive area called "Exploring". We welcome your inspirations, so please send us your reviews of books, music and movies, photos and tips from your travels, artwork, poetry, and recipes, and we will gladly post them.

If you are looking for a new web site, or a redesign, I can't recommend Peter enough. A great designer and webmaster, Peter is creative, resourceful, and very sensitive to each client's needs in creating a unique site! He is also quick, inexpensive, and flexible what more could you ask for? You can contact Peter at kars10co@sympatico.ca, or use the link at the bottom of our homepage.

Heather has received another designation as a yoga teacher through the National Endurance Sports Trainers Association. Now a Certified Sport Yoga Instructor, Heather is creatively incorporating some new Pilates, tai chi, and martial art-based movements and variations into her classes. If you have always wanted to know more about the physical practice of yoga, or are interested in taking an introductory correspondence certification program, this course is a great start to a career in yoga. Check out the site at NESTA for more info.

Lunchtime is a great time to fit in your yoga practice. If you would like to establish a lunchtime yoga program at your place of work in Brisbane, just get 5 or more co-worker together, and you get your class for free! For more info on corporate classes, contact heather@yogatrinity.com.

If you would like to further explore yoga, metaphysics, and personal development, these web sites and newsletters are great:

www.descendedmaster.com The web site for the World Development for Human Resources offers a great monthly newsletter written by some insightful, magical, and amusing metaphysicians, including one of Christopher's teachers, Patrick Desplace. As well, this site offers some amazing books to Download Free, including the Kybalion, Alice in Wonderland, The Art of War, Siddhartha, and Anderson's Fairy Tales.

www.bodymindandmodem.com is an excellent interactive site from an Aikido centre in Rochester, New York. The have some cool exercises that you can practice at home, games, graphics, and some great insights into increasing and managing your energy. A fun place to play!

www.seashell.com.au is the site of author and cartoonist Andrew Matthews. His newsletter, like his books, is brilliant, quick, witty, and spot on!

Enjoy your exploring this month, in the physical world, the cyber-world, and in the cosmic!

Namaste, Heather.

Book Review

Love is Letting Go of Fear
by Gerald Jampolsky, MD

This book has been sitting in our library since we unpacked our belongings here in Brisbane. My eyes have paused on its cover many times as I perused the shelves, but something has always caused me to move on to other books, time and time again. I have only finally picked it up on the recommendation of another great book, Follow Your Heart, by Andrew Matthews (look for a review in the coming months). Once I began, I was unable to put this book down. It is full of simple, straightforward and pragmatic insights into why we do the things we do. In relationships, at work, in sport, in all aspects of life, this book gives us the means to make better decisions, form stronger relationships, and float through life a little easier without being tossed about by the tidal waves of fear.

Although written in 1979, the concepts in this book are still as relevant today, perhaps more so, as many more people in the world are waking up to an inner call to take down the barriers of fear and separation to discover more love, purpose and peace in everyday life. Jampolsky's book frequently refers to A Course in Miracles (ACIM). The author goes as far as to outline his own very personal experience with ACIM, and reference it as the foundation for this book. Each chapter is structured around one of the concepts from ACIM, and since ACIM takes 365 days to complete, and Jampolsky's book takes 1or 2 days, I am in favour of the more time conscious resource.

I have just finished reading the book, and I am currently practicing the exercises that Dr. Jampolsky recommends. As with most personal development books, the magic is not just in the intellectualizing, but in the experiencing of the concepts. He points out, "Your willingness to practice the lessons without exceptions is important. It is the experience, resulting from the practice, which will help you approach your goal of greater personal happiness. Remember that willingness does not imply mastery-only a readiness to change ones perception."

Not exactly hot off the presses, this classic can be found in most bookstores, on-line, or you may be lucky enough to find a used copy for a couple of bucks.

Enjoy! Heather.

Christopher Temple Pizza

This used to be called "Heathers Famous Pizza", but Christopher has picked it up a notch with some spicy ingredients and a whole lotta SASS! If you require any substitutions, this recipe is very forgiving. If you are on a wheat free diet, try spelt flour. If you are avoiding yeast use a pita as a crust. If dairy isn't your thing, try roasted vegetables and soy cheese instead. Anyway you slice it, this pizza is the BEST!

Crust Ingredients:

  • 1 1/3 cups warm water
  • ½ tsp sugar or stevia
  • 1 package (2 ¼ tsp) yeast
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 ½ to 4 cups of flour (organic whole wheat, light spelt, rice)

Preparations:

Add sugar to warm water and stir. Sprinkle yeast into water and let sit for 10 minutes. Add oil and salt and stir. Add flour one cup at a time while stirring with a wooden spoon. Turn the mix out onto counter when hard to mix and start kneading. Continue to add flour as required. Knead the dough (pile and press with heels of hands) for 10 minutes. Then, place the dough in oiled bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise for 2 hours. When the dough has risen, remove from bowl, divide into two sections. Sprinkle lightly with flour and roll flat. Place each dough on a 13" pan or stone and curl up edges. Time to get saucy!

  • Short on Time? Buy ready made dough, pre-baked thin crusts, or use a pita or Lebanese bread.

Sauce Ingredients:

  • 1 can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 tsp each dried basil and oregano
  • ½ tsp dry mustard
  • ½ tsp chili peppers
  • ½ tsp black pepper

Preparations:

Put all ingredients into a bowl and stir. Done! Spoon sauce onto dough and spread evenly. Now let's move on to Toppings!

  • Short on Time? Use bottled pasta sauce, or if you bought pre-baked crust, it usually comes with sauce.

Toppings:

Mozzerella, tofu cheese, spinach & ricotta, goat cheese, red onions, roasted peppers, pineapple, broccoli, zucchini, eggplant, mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes, roasted vegetables, artichokes, olives, tomatoes, black olives and feta, baby corn and bok choy, stir fried veggies, steamed carrots, capers, artichokes, and cauliflower. BE CREATIVE! Add all the ingredients together for a Sky Scraper!

A Few Favorites:

  • Mediterranean: feta cheese, red onion, black olive, red peppers (capsicum), zucchini, oregano.
  • Hot & Spicy: fresh chilies, artichokes, capers, red onion, capsicum (bell pepper),

Imagine

Imagine a person who believes it is right and good that they are who they are. A person who honours their experiences and tells their stories. Who refuses to carry their own sins or the sins of others within their body and their life.

Imagine a person who believes they are good. A person who trusts and respects themselves. Who listens to their needs and desires, and meets them with tenderness and grace.

Imagine a person who authors their own life. A person who imagines the divine in their own image and likeness. Who designs their own spirituality and allows it to inform their daily life.

Imagine a person in love with their own body, with all its possibilities.
